Where does the collie name originate from?

The truth is, no one really knows were it the name "collie" comes from exactly. There are many theories out there. Some feel its from a Gealic word for "useful". Some feel it's from a Scottish term from the "coley" or black faced sheep the dogs herded. Some feel it's a term to describe the black coats the dogs had back at the foundation of the breed. The one thing we do know is that the "collie" is a very old name for a very beautiful, useful and intelligent companion to mankind.
