Dog Health Testing
QualityDogs.com is the first major website of its kind to actively promote the value of health testing dogs before breeding.
Each site member has a dedicated section of their profile to indicate the health screenings they perform on their dogs, and
visitors to the site can see this information and use it to help in their search for a responsible dog breeder.
There have been countless canine health screening advancements in recent years, which provide an ever-increasing set of tools that good breeders
can use to evaluate their dogs and, ultimately, improve the overall quality of their breed. More and more genetically inherited diseases
now have specific gene marker tests that can identify not only affected dogs, but also carriers of recessive genes, who don't actually have
the disease but can possibly pass it on to offspring if bred. Other diseases can be identified through non-genetic laboratory tests,
or through other technologies like X-ray, doppler echocardiogram, holter monitoring, etc.
More and more, responsible breeders have the tools to make wise breeding decisions, and by taking steps to learn about these screening tools,
you can make better choices when it comes to your next pet. If you want to learn more about specific screenings, just click on
Breed Profiles in the menu, then choose a breed. Each breed's profile contains information about health tests and issues.
If you want to show your own support for the value of health testing dogs before breeding, please feel free to display our "button" on your
