It all depends on the pup, my last litter never really were down, they were erect almost from the start

Most pups are difficult to tell until they are finished teething. There is an enzime released when they are teething to make the gums easier for the teeth to penetrate. That same enzime softens the ear cartilage. I've seen pups hold their ears totally erect early, only to have them fall down a month later. I've had some go up and down several times. If the ears are small and go up early, they will probably be prick once mature. (That is for Border Collies anyway.)
