We recommend that veterinarians follow Dr. Jean Dodd’s guidelines for vaccinations. .

We recommend foods with higher than 24% protein, 20% fat, avoiding foods containing soy or corn. We currently use Vet’s Choice Healthy Extension Original food. Puppy currently eats 3-4 cups of food per day, recommended feeding 2-3 times per day. We recommend that exercise be limited for 1 hour after eating. Buyer may find that amount of food may need to be changed to keep puppy within a healthy weight.

Collies require heartworm products that are free of ivermectin. PUPPY IS RELATED TO DOGS WHO HAVE DIED DUE TO REACTIONS FROM IVERMECTIN after being given Heartguard. Even small amounts can cause stress or even cause death in some Collies. We recommend the use of the monthly heart wormer Interceptor or daily heart wormer Dimmitrol. (available through Canadian sources without Rx). DO NOT ALLOW YOUR VETERINARIAN TO ADVISE YOU TO USE HEARTGUARD OR ANY OTHER IVERMECTIN BASED PRODUCT UNLESS THEY OR YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR THE MDR1 TEST THAT WILL TELL YOU IF THE DOG WILL HAVE A REACTION TO IVERMECTIN OR ANY RELATED PRODUCTS. This is also important information when your veterinarian chooses anesthetics for any surgeries that may be done in the future.

Collies can have raw meat from a quality source, such as 1 tablespoon of hamburger 2-3 times per week. We find conditioning is better. We also add a digestive enzyme to assist with digestion.
