A Visitor asked the following question on 4/17/2004
I am very interested in getting a Whippet as a family pet however, I live in an appartment and work long hours (8am - 6pm but come home for lunch)I am willing to take the dog out for at least 1h-2h a day. Also, should I maybe get 2 dogs to keep each other company? Please help me make the right decision for myself and the dogs. Thanks.

I think you would be better off getting a adult whippet. A adult can handle the long hours alone much better than a pup would as they need not only more time to play and burn energy but also need to go out more to relieve themselves. It would be hard to potty train a pup when away from home for that long. However there are usually plenty of adults in need of adoption with our national rescue http://www.whippet-rescue.com/ or sometimes breeders have adults as well that would be better suited for you.
