A Visitor asked the following question on 2/20/2005
I have a 7 year old smooth coat collie female. She is very sweet and has never been agressive. recently she is showing major aggression towards other dogs at a local dog park. Any suggestions?

I have seen this before. My collie did this when I bought a new dog. She is being protective of you. Altough not a collie trait, per say...it does happen. My collie adjusted after a day or 2 with the new dog;however, I would suggest taking her to the park more often. She needs to see that it is normal. Once she has been there much more often, it will become more routine and she should calm after a while. Collies are not all that happy about major changes, so it may take a couple months of going 1-2 times per week to the park. Mayb ethe first couple weeks, take her even more often. Tell her FIRMLY...no...when she shows aggression. She won't want to dissappoint you, she just wants to protect you.
