A Visitor asked the following question on 8/20/2007
when we got our collie he had both ears tilting forward and folded down about 3/4 of the way. Now he is 13 weeks old and his ears are laying funny. They are lopsided and laying sideways. Is this normal for them to change?

8/22/07 No. They should tip forward, but at 13 weeks old they need to be braced. There are several methods, but I have found that using Val-A Tear Mender to glue down the tips of the ears works best. It can be found at most hardware stores. However, if the ears are falling over to the side, clean the insides of the ears really well and get them dry. Then use breathright strips to brace them before you glue them down. Russell

9/6/07 When a puppy starts to going through the teething stage, the ears will go every which way! So yes, that is normal for them to be doing that. It is best to try to brace them from the inside so the ear has some support, usually with some double sided carpet tape, and then you can tip the over at the same time, but have the support on the inside of the ear as well! If you have any questions about ear bracing, please let me know, or contact your breeder for tips. Patti
