A Visitor asked the following question on 5/15/2007
freckles. My two puppies are AKC Bichon Frise. They seem to be having an increase as they grow of these brown spots that aren't detectible under their fur but when washed they are noticeable. Do these mean that they have a nutritional deficiency or what? With this recent frenzy about dog food they are predominantly being fed fresh organic chicken, some vegetables, brown rice, cheese, tuna, apples, and oatmeal at times.
I have another question also. My dogs are male and female for breeding. At five months they seem interested in mating, but the female has not yet obviously (no blood) come into heat. Do I keep them apart physically. I have been trying but they are whimpering without each other. Can they conceive without the sign of fertility? Not sure. New to this.

The brown coloring is probably pigment which you want in a bichon and you can only see it when you give them a bath. Your female probably won't be in heat for awhile even though your male may be ready. Usually the girls are not ready to breed til they are about a year old. Maybe you should read some books on breeding dogs for more information.
