A Visitor asked the following question on 1/2/2005
Own a 2-1/2 yr. old male blue merle & own a 8 month old female red merle. When do you breed. I'm told not the first time she comes in heat.Best way to keep them apart or whatever.

1/4/05 The first question you should ask is are you sure you are ready to breed. Breeding is not easy and it takes a lot of time and dedication. Also, before breeding you should make sure you know everything there is to know about the breed and make sure that your dogs are in good health. Now if you are prepared for that than maybe you should go to the breeder where you got your Aussies from and ask them for your help. Also, you say that you want to breed merles. Be careful because a lot can go wrong with merle to merle breedings. I would suggest not breeding until your btich is at least two years old that way she is mature enough to handle being a mother. Please before you breed make sure you know and understand what you are getting into and get help from someone who is experienced in the breed Amy
