Own a 2-1/2 yr. old male blue merle & own a 8 month old female red merle. When do you breed. I'm told not the first time she comes in heat.Best way to keep them apart or whatever.

2/5/05 We do not breed until both the Sire and the Dam are 2 years of age. We do OFA and CERF certifications to verify our breeding pair are free of hip dysplasia and eye defects. You also want to check for brucellosis. OFA can not be done until 2 years of age. Presta Presta

2/26/05 You also want to think about how you are going to deal with the whites in your itter. Are you prepared to euthanise or find homes for pups that may not be able to live a healthy life? Merle to merle breedings make beautiful pups, but at what cost? You may also want to ask yourself if both dogs are worth being bred, or is it just a convinience? You may want to do some research before you begin as well. You need to think about all the complications and if you are ready for it. You will not make any money if you are a responsible breeder who does it properly, you will. most likely lose money. Pam and Lee

4/20/05 NO WAY SHOULD YOU BE BREEDING A PUP THAT YOUNG. DO YOU show, do agility, herindg or ob? Have these dogs been ofa's cerf or any other testing? If they are pet quality they should not be bred at all - there was a reason way they were sold as pets. Jarilyn
