WashAshore Portuguese Water Dogs (PWD) is located on Cape Cod, (MA), breeding only PWDs and produce only one litter per year. My dogs have undergone all recommended health testing and other testing over and above the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America (PWDCA)recommendations. Only dogs having earned at least their Champion title in Conformation are considered for breeding. Pursuit of CGC and Therapy certification is encouraged. Temperament, health and improving the Standard of the Breed, are goals sought in Sire selection. I am a member of both the PWDCA and Mayflower PWD club. My pups are raised under foot as members of the family, using "Puppy Culture" techniques to better prepare them socially for their new homes and adventures. Ongoing socialization is stressed with the goal of raising well-adjusted puppies that have undergone various exposures, decreasing the risk of shy or fearful puppies. New owners receive comprehensive "Puppy Packets" that include educational materials to aid in training and knowledge of age-appropriate exercise, updated vaccination schedule recommendations, and other important information regarding the PWD breed. Much discussion takes place regarding "fearful stages" in development, as well as handouts on this topic. All puppies are age-appropriately wormed, vaccinated, eye exams are carried out by a board certified Vet. Ophthalmologist, a veterinary health exam, temperament testing and micro-chipped. Certifications of above are included in the Puppy Packet. Age-appropriate toys, puppy food, pee pads, a collar and training leash are also included. I send each pup home with a "binky/mat" that has been exposed to Mom & litter-mates to aid in the transition to their new environment. Crates have been set up in their play areas for familiarity with crating. A Puppy Application aids in placing the best possible "fit" for both the puppy and the new owners. All puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract.
