A Visitor asked the following question on 10/13/2005
My dog had this but it wasn't determined until he passed out for the second time-after I took him to a specialist we found out he had fluid around his heart, and they couldn't drain the fluid because they couldn't put him under because of the breathing issue. Apparently, his liver was enlarged and pressing on his diaphram which made the breathing problem even worse. The specialist said he probably always had a breathing problem but I did not know and there was no indication of anything abnormal over the course of 9 years. What can I do in the future to ensure I would not be purchasing a dog who has inherited health problems such as this?

Do your homework. Find out from the breeder how long thier pugs live, health gaurentee, etc. Observe the parents.
