Is there any history of irratic breathing problems? My Brandy (short-haired miniture)sometimes does this snorting and sucking of air almost as if there was something stuck on her windpipe).

Yes this is normal in all dogs, it is called a reverse sneeze. It is a spasm of the diaphram. I had a mixed breed dog that did it when you would spray air freshener or perfume. One of my dachshund does it occasionally, he will even wake up in a sleep doing it. I have found to just comfort them and they usually can calm quicker.
