A Visitor asked the following question on 12/16/2007
I just bought a silver dapple male. The breeder calls him a double dapple but the dam is black and tan and the sire is double dapple/piebald? I seriously think the sire may be double dapple and not piebald. I thought both parents had to be dapple to create a double dapple, however my pup does have a white tip on one toenail. Other than that he has tan feet and markings with dappling only on the black portions of his coat. I have pics if it would help anyone determine exactly what I have.

Both parents do have to be dapple to create a double dapple so if mom was a solid black and tan, you have a dapple. By description, it sounds like you have a regular black and tan dapple. A white tip on the toe nail can be a simple matter of a small minus factor commonly seen with dapples.
