Summer is finally here, and we welcome the warmer weather!
We've had some losses here at Nekatzuki. First, our resident "Grandma kitty" Molly passed away on June 25. Because she was a stray, we don't know exactly how old she was, but estimates put her over 12. She is missed greatly by dogs and humans alike. The very next day, we had to say our final goodbyes to Wheezy, our senior rescue shiba. Wheezy spent 10 years as a puppy mill "breeder" before we got her 5 and a half years ago. We were sad to have to let her go, but know that she will greet us at the bridge when our days on earth are over. To ready Wheezy's story, visit http://www.new-moon.com/Old/Nekatzuki/Documents/survivors.pdf Saying goodbye to our friends is never easy. We hope that we do not have to do it again anytime soon. But as our hearts break, we make plans for the next generation. With the Shiba National approaching, watch for exciting announcements about potential additions to our kennel. April

We have had a very busy spring season so far here at Nekatzuki.
We are SO excited to report that Cubbie (aka Spanky) has started his show career with a bang! He was Winners Dog and Best of Winners for a 3 point major in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on April 18th. He repeated his awesome performance the next day to add another single point, for a total of 4. We heard some really nice things about our young dog, from both judges and spectators alike. Watch for him in Jefferson, WI on May 2-3, and in Oshkosh, WI May 16-17. Litter brother Maybe is doing well with new mom and dad Tom and Rebecca. We will be evaluating him in early May, and he will begin his show career in Arkansas shortly thereafter. Daku is busy growing new coat, and will come back to the show ring as a special as soon as he looks like a winner again. And last but not least, Hanako has told us that she would like to have babies again, so we are doing a repeat breeding to Daku later this summer/early fall. She is an outstanding mother, and we are excited to see what she and Daku can bring us next. We may potentially have babies available, although some already have homes waiting for them. As winter drags on here in northeast WIsconsin, we are seeing some hopeful signs of things to come for the summer.
Hanako seems to be settling into her new role as retired champion, on our couch! I've added a couple of pictures of her relaxing, with NO thought of another showring performance ever again! Daku is wintering well, and maturing into a very handsome young dog. We will be doing a bit more training, and showing him as a special as soon as his spring shed is complete. Maybe has found his forever home with Rebecca Griffin, in Arkansas. He will be leaving us soon, and meeting his new "sisters", Desi (a shiba serior) and Elly Mae, a young rambunctous redbone hound. We welcome Rebecca and her husband into the Nekatzuki family. Wheezy, our almost 15 year old rescue girl, continues to amaze us with her stamina and zest for life. Although she suffers from a myriad of health problems, she makes no bones about letting us know if her dinner is late, or her "cookie" does not arrive on schedule! And last, but not least, Cubbie, owned and loved by Hilary Mucino, has started his show career with a nice reserve winners dog placement in West Allis on March 1. We expect great things from this boy, bred here at Nekatzuki. February

February has been an exciting month at Nekatzuki.
2/1/09 Daku attains his championship with back to back wins at Packerland Kennel Club in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This boy has been a dream come true here at Nekatzuki. With a sound temperament and gorgeous breed type, we expect he will form the foundation of our breeding program for many years to come. 2/11/09 Hanako goes on the road with our friend and mentor Tammy Szabo. With nine shows entered, over the coarse of three weeks, we did not expect Hanako home until sometime in early March. Imagine our surprise when Tammy called us on Valentine's Day morning to report that Hanako had finished her championship that morning with a 5 point major and best of opposite sex! We were happy to welcome her home early, and let her retire to our couch. 2/12/09 With both his father and mother now champions, we brought Spanky - now called Cubbie, back home to Nekatzuki to train him for a show on March 1. This boy has grown into a handsome young pup, and should finish without much difficulty. As we end the month with a chance to see Cubbie and his litter brother, Maybe, side by side, we can see that Maybe IS going to be large enough to show. We continue to offer him for sale, but will show him until he finds his forever home. We are really looking forward to the months ahead, and showing our "next generation" here at Nekatzuki. |
