I am interested in trying to determine what is a proper amount to pay for stud fee. I know that some pay with pick of the litter or with a fee. I would like to know what a normal fee for stud service is. I know it depends onthe dogs line, so if you could give me a starting point I would be grateful.

It does depend on the amount of Champions in his pedigree, or if the sire itself is a Champion, etc. Those help raise the price. Many people charge a puppy back for the fee and the ones we've used charged either that, or $1,000-$1,200. They were former show dogs and had produced winners of shows, but were not Champions themselves. Dont be surprised to have to sign a contract/agreement with the stud owner regarding future generations of the puppies too.
