A Visitor asked the following question on 6/15/2005
I received my westie as a gift from my father
about a year ago. He was then 5 months old and
had a thin coat. Heavier in the front and head
area and sparse closer to the back end.
I even had one lady ask me if he was an old dog
at the time he was 5 months!
I feed him baked chicken with carrots or sweet potatoes and "wellness" brand kibble, normally
with linseed or olive oil.
He has eaten this way for a year now, and he still
has a very sad looking coat. Is there something I could be giving him to correct this?
I would love to see him with that beautiful coat so many westies have.
Thanks,
Cheri

Hi Cheri;
Have you wormed him, since you've had him? I would go with panacure for 3 days then once again at 10 days later.
Then switch him over slowly to Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach, this is primarily fish (salmon) and it is wonderful for a nice and thick terrier coat. Also, get a good Biotin supplement.
Use both, the pro plan and biotin.
You can still cook him chicken and veggies, but no more oil.
It may take 4 - 5 months, but you should see a nice coat by then.
Good Luck.
