I am very concerned about the precautions of using Proheart 6 protection on my toy poodle...I have tried using Heartgard...and she became lethargic, diarrehea for 3 days....that was a 1/2 tablet for dogs 11-25 lbs...she weighs about 6-8 lbs. I am in a quandry...do not know what to do. She is basically a condo dog...and doesn't mix with other dogs. I am wondering if maybe she could just go without any.

5/28/08 I believe every dog should stay on a heartworm prevenitive at least from Feb-Oct if up north and all year around in the lower states. If she goes outside to go potty, goes on a car ride, or anywhere outside she can get bit. They can even get in your home and bite your dog. I would try heartguard again after speaking to your vet about the proper dosages. There are a lot other prevenitives out there to try if it does not work out. Dogs do not get heartworms from other dogs but from mosquetos so if she is bit by just one she is at risk. Kristina
