how old does the male dog have to be before he can produce sperm to make a bitch preganant

12/29/06 A male can produce as soon as his testicles drop which is usually between 6-10 months of age. You shouldn't breed him this young because you don't know what he'll really look like until he's 2.5 years old. At that time you'll also know if any genetic problems came up in him. If he has any you definately don't want to breed him and put those genes back into the gene pool. We as breeders need to be responsible for our breed. The best way to get rid of health problems is to make sure we have breeding stock in excellent health and eliminate the ones that have the health problems from breeding. I would find a healthy, proven stud that matches your lines to breed with until the young pup matures and you know what you'll be getting by breeding. Gerid
