6/20/06 First and foremost, No Shih Tzu should ever leave it's mother and littermates before the age of 12 weeks of age. Taking a Shih Tzu from it's mother at any other age is asking for ALOT of problems. The AKC American Shih Tzu Club says that a Shih Tzu should not ever leave it's mother before 12 weeks old. Anyone that let's a Shih Tzu go before that age doesn't know anything about the psychological development of a puppy and doesn't know anything about the maturity of the Shih Tzu Breed. If I were you, I would run as fast as possible from that particular breeder and look for someone who knows why you don't take a Shih Tzu away from it's mother before 12 weeks as well as why you especially don't take one away from it's mother at 8 weeks of age. I would love for you to give me a call and let me explain why you should never take one away at the age you are discussing. You will wind up with more problems than you really want and I can guarantee you that the puppy will not be a well r Pam
