A Visitor asked the following question on 10/24/2007
My 4 year old male Shiba has not aggressively bitten
my husband---not one bite but an attack. This last time there was no known provocation. We have spoken with a dog behaviorist who essentially has stated that the dog probably is considered dangerous at this point. There is no predictability around the attacks and in between Buddy is a sweet dog. He has been seen regularly by our vet and does not have any medical issues.
We have worked with this behaviorist before over dominance issues and biting.
Do we just put the dog down????????????????

Hopefully by now you have found a qualified behavior specialist to work with. Shibas can be pushy little dogs, and need firm boundaries, or they can develop a "Napoleon complex". Although you have stated there is "no predictability" around your dog's attacks, there are subtle signs that you are missing. A behavior specialist will help you to recognize your dog's triggers so that you can either avoid them, or train your dog to react in a more acceptable way.
