I have a new mother Huskey with puppies they are almost one week old. When will their eyes open? How long do I need to keep the male Huskey away from the mother? Also, any telling how big they will get by their birth weight? Thank you Toni

6/5/07 Hi Toni, The eyes usually open between 10-14 days. It is almost impossibe to tell the full size of the pups by looking at them now. Some litters the runt ends up being the biggest of them all. You can pretty much look at the mother and father and get a good idea of the size that the pups should get. AS for the father it is sometimes best just to let the mother have a quiet place with her pups. The mother will be back in heat approximately 4 months after having the pups so keep an eye out. Well hope I helped you a little. Laura

8/9/08 It takes two weeks most of the time. I have had them to open earlier than that. I wouldnt let the male be around the pups at all. Shirley
