if they are the same why the change in name

The original name has always been Parson Russell. When the JRTCA started in the US with English dogs, they didn't want to be associated with the Kennel Club in England, they wanted the breed to be strictly a hunting breed and not a pure breed. When the breed finally came to AKC recognition, the name had to be changed back to the original name since all others countries have only known it to be Parson and not Jack.
