A Visitor asked the following question on 10/18/2004
I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD POMERANIAN AND FOR ABOUT THE PAST COUPLE WEEKS HE HAS BEEN CONSTINTLY SCRATCHING AND MOVING . IF I EVEN TOUCH HIM ANYWHERE BELOW THE NECK HE WILL AUTOMATICLLY START SCRATCHING WITH HIS BACK LEGS AND WONT STOP.
I HAVE ALREADY TREATED HIM FOR FLEAS AND I DONT SEE ANYTHING VISIBLE ON HIM OR ANY HAIR LOSS. HIS PERSONALITY HAS CHANGED BECAUSE OF HIS UNCOMFORTABLE SKIN CONDITION. WHAT CAN I DO TO SOOTH IT FOR HIM?

There are many skin conditions and parasites that can cause a pom to itch. There are many over the counter skin treatments you can try to help alliviate his scratching. Look at petsmart or petedge, or rivival (can be found online)and look up their different shampoos, sprays and treatments they have for the itchy skin. Also your dog could have scabbies. It is a mite of sorts (which can also bite you) that may not cause any hair loss, but extreme itching. Agian you could try a shampoo that claims it can kill mites. Also you can see a vet and ask them to do check them and examine a few skin cells under a microscope to look for parasites or other conditions.
I hope this helps.
