A Visitor asked the following question on 9/28/2005
At what age should male Poms breed with females? I have read that you should not breed a female until her second heat and that she should be at least 15 months old. If she falls a month or 2 shy of the 15 months is that a problem or is it better to wait until her next heat?

Its actually best to wait until the third heat with any breed of dog, with some larger one you wait even longer for them to be full grown. As for a male i think according to AKC he must be at least 8 months old to go on the papers a the sire. But it is also best to wait for them to be full grown(1yr), you don't have to but it is best since that is when he will have the highest sperm count and the most mature sperm.
