A Visitor asked the following question on 1/20/2008
Hello, I am seeking advise from fellow newf owners regarding my 6 yr old spayed female. In recent weeks I have noticed that her usually sleek and healthy skin and coat has become thin ( little undercoat remains) and coarse. She is professionally groomed every two months. I switched her diet from Science Diet (lg breed, light) to Solid Gold 9 a high quality, organic brand) about six months ago. I am attempting to switch her back to S.D. but her digestive sytem has not responded well thus far to being reintroduced to something else. I do not know if her condition is a result of the food, a symptom of aging, or something altogether different. I intend on seeking advice from my vet, however I worry that they may not be as aware about breed specific conditions. If you have any experience with this area, I would be interested in hearing your ideas. Thank you.

You need to take her to a vet ASAP for a thyroid test. Are you currently treating her for fleas regularly? If not, she also needs to be placed on regular topical flea control. Your first plan of attack is a thyroid test and flea control! Science Diet is not the best food you could use. Stick with Solid Gold or Try Diamond Naturals. I could also recommend a great supplement if you want to e-mail me.
