I have a 5 month old male mastiff. I got him at 7 weeks old. He was not house trained then. It took about three weeks to get him to go potty outside. But we Have to make him. He wont let us know when he has to go, we have to take him about every three hr's. And when we do he urinates on the way out the door. But at night when he's asleep next to my bed he will wake me up to take him out, and goes outside with out force. What have we done wrong? What can we do to change this?

4/14/08 I keep hanging bells on my door and everytime the pups go out to "potty" I ring the bell when they're being trained. Now, they ring the bell themselves when they want to go out and I hear it from wherever I am in the house! Deb Deborah

9/5/08 You need to get him up and out quickly. Wake him up , quickly outside 2 pees and a poop then playtime. No play until pee andpoop. I start young and I wake them up and run outside quickly and they pee and poop. When they do go outside make a big fuss praise praise praise. Feed him and give him water wait about 15 mins to a half hour, he is older and then bring him outside to do his buisness. Make up a catch word for it like do hurry up and when he does it praise him, LGood hurry up. this way when you take him out he will know theat that means potty time. No play til after buisness is done. They can't hold it very long when they wake up so you need to get outside quickly. Once he wakes up He needs to get outside right away. not fter you put your shoes on because that is to long. Immediatly after waking up, wake-2 pees and a poop. Joanne Viera Joanne
