Of my four mastiffs, I can only say my male is the only one that digs. But he really doesn't dig, he just buries his ball and then digs it up. You can easily teach them not to dig if you supervise them when they are young. It is a learning process just like chewing shoes or furniture. Give a boy a shovel (paws) and he will use it (them)! A Mastiff to our family is worth any size hole we have to fill back up. They are a true companion and when you fall in love with one, you may not care how many holes they dig.
