I have a 2 year old mini and a 10 mo old mini I dont know about the female cycles and when it is a safe age to breed. I want to do this the right and safe way for my dogs.I have bought a ton of books but I'm not getting the info I need. I only want to breed Luci one time and I want to do it right. Help!!! THanks

2/22/06 You dont want to breed your female until her second heat. Your male really needs to be closer to a year old. There is a really good breeding book called Successful Dog Breeding by Chris Walkowicz and Bonnie Wilcox,DVM. Sheila

3/2/06 I agree that most of the time the second heat cycle of your female is an "ok" time to breed her, however you must also take into consideration her maturity and physical size....some dogs do better if you wait until the 3rd of 4th heat cycle,they turn out to be better mommies. (at least I think so) As for the male he needs to be at least one year old. Tammy
