Why is their life span so shor? I have read that they uusually only live to about seven years old

Some wolfhounds can live until the ripe old age of 12. It all depends on their parentage / bloodlines / and care.
Always make sure you buy from a reputable breeder who has investigated their own pedigrees and bloodlines before breeding.
