A Visitor asked the following question on 6/17/2005
My brother just added a six-month old female Great Dane to his family. She's been a great dog with one exception – she potties in the house when they aren't in sight to correct her. So they are crate training her, but she will potty in the crate as well. I've told them to put her on a feeding schedule and to take her outside shortly after feeding – and to take treats with them to reward her if she goes outside. I have some training experience so I know it is difficult to house train a dog that will go in the crate, but I was hoping someone might have another idea.
Thank you in advance!

It is hard to train an older dog that will go anywhere but I did it with an older bitch I bought that was kept outside. I have even found if breeders keep thier puppies dirty they develop the "its ok to potty here" additude and it is very hard to get rid of. I would sudgest putting her in a smaller crate and leaving her outside longer. Also she should never eat or drink in her bed. And do not feed her within 2 hours of bedtime. And most important never leave her unattended! Most people take potty training forgranted lol.
