Most danes enjoy an active life style. I have Danes who swim, hike and jog with me.
I think the question you truly need to ask is if you will have enough time for a pet while attending collage, if you will have the means to take care of unexpected problems and if your living situation will allow for a giant breed dog.
If you can answer yes to all the above then I would consider a dane.

I tell all of my new owners that a dane doesn't know it is a dog...it thinks its a person! They become part of the family and really do well around kids and other dogs.
