Pyrs are natural guardians. As the dog grows, it will grow into its role. You must start with a dog that has strong working instincts. Some Pyrs are better at livestock guarding than others. It is also not a good idea to turn your potential livestock guard into a house pet while it is young. It is helpful to put the pup with the livestock while it is young. During adolesence, care must be taken that the pup isn't allowed to play rough with the livestock or chase the animals.
