Once she is in heat, how long does she attract male dogs? When is it safe to stop vigilant guard?

7/17/05 I was advised how to successfully breed my 3 yr. old Golden. I had tried twice before without success, but it worked the third time. During the first week of heat she will bleed. This is not the time to try to breed. During the second week is the time to breed. I was advised to breed 3 days in a row. This is to prevent underdeveloped pups (but this is not a guarentee). Days of gestation make a difference with development of pups. The next time I breed I will only breed 1 or 2 days though. My dam had 12 puppies! After breeding keep dam away from male dogs. The dog could be bred anytime during the second and third week. Hope this helps you. Nancy
