Hi,
A heat is a female dog's menstruation cycle. They are characterized by small round drops of blood, however, they can be "silent" and have no show of blood at all. It is during this cycle that your female may become pregnant. It is important to know that there may be no show of blood, but your female is still able to become pregnant.
Female dogs normally have two "heats" yearly.
