A Visitor asked the following question on 2/14/2006
Although I have a pure-bred golden retriever he seems unusually big and boxy, and though his coat is soft and long, it's not very silky. His tail tends to curl up too much according to the standards I have read. He is a beautiful cream color and in every other aspect is as golden retrieverish as he can be. Are there variations in the breed?

Of course there are variations. The Golden Retriever was first created by breeding an Irish Setter to a Yellow Lab.... So, as the breeding goes, each dog will pull different traits each way - lighter or darker, curlier hair or softer, boxy head or long snout.
