i wanted to know how to get my 4 year old dachshud and my wifes new puppy to get along all he does is bark at the puppy or totally ignore her is there any advice anyone can give me?

The best thing is to pet the older dog when the puppy is around. Don't bet the older one if there is barking. Don't are very jealous. In your actions, prove to the older one that there are still number one.
Take time to pet and play with the young one away from the older one.
