I wish to mate my 1 and a half year old female.She is on heat day 7 and I have a male here to stay but he seems to lazy. She is standing for him and loves him but he does not seem interested. How do I encourage him? I believe day 7 to day 10 is the time, so time is short.

You don't usually breed till 9th and 11th day of her cycle. The female is most fertile around her 12th day. Males will not try till female is ready to accept them. All females will play around as you described, but wouldn't allow a breeding.
Some females have earlier cycles and are ready to breed around even 8 th day, but your male should know.
