I just wanted to say that my brother's dachshund also started to lose patches of hair. He took the dog to the vet and found out he at demodectic mange caused by mites. If it is left untreated it will cause severe hair loss and skin deformities. It also usually occurs in puppies, but once a dog has is one time it could become a reoccuring battle.

Unfortunatly that is very common in pups that come from puppy mills or have been raised in a filthy environment. There are ways to cure it, but it takes a long time.
