A Visitor asked the following question on 12/25/2005
I just purchased a 10 week old mini dachsund. I have read that you must get up in the night to take her out to eliminate. Is it possible to keep the crate open (inside the gated area) to eliminate and still housetrain her effectively so I don't have to get up in the night?

You could do that, but most of my pups are holding it through a regular night at this age. Make sure that you feed her at least a few hours before bedtime and that she goes out for one last potty break before bedtime. You are likely to find that she doesn't have much trouble. Of course, do not keep water in her crate, as what goes in must come out!
