we live in sask, our dobie had an insulated dog house with a heated pet pad, he prefers to be out, how long is too long?

When the tips of his ears are cold to the touch he probably ought to come in for a bit. There are several kinds of cold weather gear on FidoFleece.com that actually fit dobes. As a rule of thumb, if you're uncomfortable in the weather so is your dobe.
