1/10/06 Would check the value of the fat he is getting, this means check on your bag of food if he is receiving enough Omega 3 proteins..this means basically that he is not getting enough..you could supplement him with Omega 3 capsules and at 2 yrs its a good time to begin the check on Thyroid, this test should be done every 2 yrs...about the food, commercial dry dog food lack the essential nutrient, you should also always give Vit E every day...Vit C also...and go with an excellent dry kibble..dobermans need good balanced dog food this is why we feed only "Barf" to our kids Francoise

1/10/06 You might try adding kelp to his diet. Our vet's assistant swears by it. Nutra brand dog food is very good and has improved the coats of our dogs. Aside from that, make sure that you aren't washing him too often... once a week or even every other week if he's inside most of the time should be enough. A medicated shampoo from your vet might be an option as well -- or good old fashioned Aveeno oatmeal powder. Good luck with him! Kendell

4/12/06 firstly i would advise bathing/shampooing your dog no more than once every 3 months due to the dobermanns need to retain the oils in his coat, use baby wipes they are very good for cleaning their coats. I would also reccommend that you try changing his food (do this gradually), look on the back of 'quality' dog food packaging for a high content in oil, i think you dogs coat is too dry which is causing the skin to dry out.hope this helps. ms a
