Can you give me some general information on avg. height, weight, lifespan, ect. of King Charles CAvalier spaniels?

6/28/05 Breed standard is 12-18 pounds and height is 12-13 inches. The average lifespan is 9-12 years. But many things can factor into how long a dog lives such as quality of care, type of diet and whether or not the dog has any genetic or other health problems. Many cavaliers have lived way past 14 years and some die at an early age to due to heart or other problems. Lynda

7/18/05 The standard & other information is available on both the http://www.ackcsc.org and the http://www.ckcscsm.org websites. The AKC standard is the "idea"...the "gold standard" for the Cavalier; they may vary up & down from that range. The average life span is 9-12 years. There was several old living Cavaliers...I have linebred on a Cavalier that lived to 18+ in the USA. The major health concern is MVD (heart disease)so it is important to have a breeder that knows pedigrees & is involve in a breed club so they know what the what the trends of these conditions are. We (the ACKCSC Health Committee in which I am a member) are currently conducting an international health breed survey through a leading university. There is also Chiari 1 malformation coming forward in the toy breeds & some of the larger breeds. There is also a "mucous plug" they can also inquire in their inner ears kind of like human toddlers.
