HOW WELL PROCTECTED IS THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL?
HAS THIS BREED BECOME POPULAR THEY ARE NOW OVER BREEDING THEM?
THE REASON FOR THIS AS FOLLOW'S;
I WENT INTO MALL PET STORE IN PARAMUS NJ, PARAMUS PARK, AND NOTICE 3 WHITE AND TAN CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL'S, 2 MALES AND 1 FEMALE.
I WAS SUPPRISED TO SEE THESE ANIMALS CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL'S IN THE PET STORE, DUE TO SOMEONE TELLING THIS BREED IS VERY PROTECTED AND YOU'LL NEVER SEE THIS BREAD IN A MALL PET STORE.
IT REALLY UPSET ME SINCE I WAS WATCHING ONE TO THE MALE HEAVY SET EMPLOYEES HANDLING THE DOG'S AND MIXING THEM WITH OTHER BREEDS, AND THE POOR THINGS DIDN'T LOOK HAPPY AT ALL. I INQUIRED WHAT WAS THE STORES ASKING PRICE AND I JUST COULDN'T AFFORD IT, BUT IF THIS BREED IS PROTECTED BY WHAT MY FRIEND TOLD I WANTED TO LET SOMEONE KNOW ABOUT AND MAYBE ADVISE ME HOW TO GET THESE PUPPIES TO A GOOD PLACE THEN THE PET STORE.
I ALSO LEARNED THE HARD WAY ABOUT PURCHASING PET STORE DOGS.
IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO HELP THESE 3 PUPPIES OUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANK YOU

Yes this is very sad. I also have heard of Cavies in pet stores in the Detroit area of Michigan. As in any area there must of been a breeder who let someone have breeding rights that wasn't going to uphold the breed standards. Anyone who buys from the pet store takes a risk with maybe not having a purebreed, akc or maybe even some of the defects that this breed can have. Other than finding out who the breeder is and talking to them, their is not much we can do.

This is very sad as these pups may not make it past thier first birthdays. A breeder who sells to puppy stores is either unethical or uneducated. If the store stops buying, the breeder will stop selling. Maybe these puppies will be lucky and go to good homes that can afford the medical bills to keep the dogs healthy.
