Cane Corso Questions

I am looking to rescue a Cane Corso Puppy from a shelter (he has mange and is in need of a good home). He is ~3-4 months old. I have research the breed a great deal and the Cane Corso seems like an excellent fit - based on my reading. However, I have been hearing another side from people - basically telling me that they are dangerous dogs and have the tendency to turn on people - potential killers and I am taking a big chance adopting one. Is this true? What is your experience with the breed - have you heard similar stories and if you have - would you consider these "stories" to be true. Thanks so much!

1/20/08 We own 2 Cane Corso dogs and they are great! Granted these dogs are not for everyone and like most dogs they require training and lots of socialization. It's important to socialize them at a young age and make them familier with different environments and surroundings so that they can deal better under any situation that might arise. As for being a potential killer, I'm sure if someone owned one and simply stuck it in their backyard with no socialization or training this could be possible...much the same with any breed of dog.
