4/18/06 Yes they can hunt pheasant. These dogs are great for upland game as well as waterfowl. Stephanie

4/30/06 Pheasant and chesapeakes go together very well. It is actually the favorite of my dogs to hunt. They love the idea of running free and working. THey are awesome in the field. Robyn

5/3/06 Yes, chessies are excellent hunters of upland game and waterfowl. However, unlike the lab they are a very high energy dog with a natural protection instinct and are not necessarily a good dog for just anyone. They require an owner with a lot of patience and an excellent understanding of dogs and training, or the chessie will often take over as the leader. You have to learn how to control the energy without deflating the attitude. Kathy

5/3/06 A "chessie" can hunt and retrieve just about anything. Pheasants are nothing compared to a 20 pound red fish one of our chessies brought in from the Gulf of Mexico without a mark on it! Candace

6/3/06 Chesapeakes love to upland hunt.....we suggest to people who purchase one of our pups for that purpose to not start them to young, if you also want to hunt waterfoulw with them. Get some control for the duck blind, then take them upland bird Hunting after they are about 1 1/2 to 2 years of age - The will excel, but you will have a good foundation for control! Dom & Norene
