The price varies by region. If you buy from a show breeder, you will typically pay less, and also get a healthier/sounder dog, because show breeders do not breed for money - they breed to get a better dog to keep for themselves. In my area, Missouri, a quality pet sells for $600-$800. I have seen "minis" sell for $1200.
There are so many other factors to consider when purchasing a dog, especially health. Skin problems, entropian, fevers, and hip dysplasia plaque many of the back-yard-breeder dogs, because they breed whatever they have handy. The cost of entropian surgury in my area is $300. Skin problems and fevers are ongoing expenses that can easily run you into the thousands of dollars for a lifetime of treatment.

You need to look at breed quality and make sure the pups are what is set as standard. Color is a big factor in price as blues are to the high side and fawns to the low. $800.00-$1200.00 or more depending on the breeder and the area they are in and how long they have been breeding.
