No, not at all. Shar Pei's are great with kids. They are very protective of their family.

Sharpei can need more attention than some dogs. They can not just be let go and never bathed and looked after. You will have skin problems without proper care of a pei. Regular bathing will make them easy to care for and a wonderful pet.
