A Visitor asked the following question on 6/30/2010
I just got a Chihuahua(Dio) a few days ago and he will not come by me at all, he even runs away when I try to touch him. He loves my other dogs and will sit on my lap for hours if I put him there. He sleeps in bed with me (I put him there) and I'm nothing but nice to him. I even tried just ignore him and nothing has changed at all! How do I get Dio to stop being afraid/scard of me??

I hope by now things are better for you and Dio. It is the nature of the chihuahua breed to need time to fully trust someone before they will open themselves to being affectionate and showing their true personailities. Dio may have not been socialized with alot of people so meeting new people is a bit scary for him. I would say give him time to know that you are only someone who wants to love him. I'd be very surprised after a peroid of two weeks if you just stay the course showing him love but allowing him a little space that he will still be acting this way. Good luck I'm sure you'll get to see that loving chihuahua personailty soon!
