A Visitor asked the following question on 2/23/2007
I just purchased a brother and sister black and tan (not that color matters) pair of chihuahua's that are 8 weeks old. when they get to the mating stage in thier lives do I need to make arrangements to neuter the mail or seperate them? what will happen if they mate together. I want to eventually breed the female so should I neuter the male or can they have healthy pups?

You need to be highly educated in breeding to do line breeding safely. You need to know and understand the genetic background of the pups. If I were you, I would sell the male and get another female and pay for stud services. Or if you are attatched to the male, neuter him before 5 months to prevent the nasty habit of spraying all over your home. An intact male is not fun!
Breeding is no picnic. There are alot of risks for your female.
